D365’s TMS offerings provide core transportation planning and execution capabilities like carrier management, load planning, and manual freight invoice reconciliation. At its core, Microsoft D365 Finance and Supply Chain offers a comprehensive toolkit designed to help shipping operations plan and optimize transportation routes, consolidate shipments, and schedule timely deliveries. However, for enterprise-level businesses tasked with shipping dangerous goods on a regular basis, these offerings can be limited – especially when compared to specialized TMS platforms that include robust hazardous material shipping capabilities.
Chemical manufacturers, for example, require HazMat shipping compliance to meet regulations, ensure safety, prevent supply chain disruptions, and reduce liability. Non-compliance risks fines, delays, and reputational damage. Automating compliance through platforms like D365 and e2open’s TMS streamlines processes, enhances safety, and optimizes hazardous materials transportation – enabling organizations to ship smarter faster.
Integrating HazMat TMS shipping into D365
NMB Gateway for TMS enables direct integration with advanced third-party TMS solutions like e2open. This extended functionality allows shippers to access real-time carrier networks, optimize freight management, and automate complex logistics workflows without leaving their D365 environment. We’ve integrated e2open’s HazMat shipping capabilities into D365, which means our customers can further automate shipping workflows and ensure safer handling, reduce liability, and optimize shipping costs while maintaining full regulatory adherence.

Shipping hazardous materials comes with complex regulatory requirements, high risks, and strict compliance mandates. Shippers must navigate regulations from DOT, IATA, and other global agencies while ensuring safe, efficient, and cost-effective transportation. By integrating e2open’s HazMat shipping capabilities into D365, businesses can enhance compliance, automate workflows, and gain real-time visibility into their shipments by consolidating key shipping data onto single-source pages within NMB Gateway for TMS.
The benefits of extending native D365 TMS capabilities into NMB Gateway for TMS:
Enhanced Compliance: D365's hazardous materials features help ensure compliance with various regulations such as ADR, CFR 49, IMDG, and IATA. Integrating NMB Gateway for TMS with e2open’s HazMat capabilities can streamline the process of generating necessary documentation and tracking compliance requirements.
Improved Efficiency: e2open's TMS platform provides robust tools for managing transportation logistics. When integrated with D365 (via NMB Gateway for TMS), it enables seamless workflows and efficient handling of HazMat shipments, reducing operational blind spots.
Real-time Visibility: The integration leverages real-time tracking and visibility of shipments, ensuring that hazardous materials are monitored closely throughout the transportation process.
Automated Processes: Combining D365 with e2open's TMS automates many manual tasks, such as data entry and document generation, leading to faster and more accurate processing of HazMat shipments.
Centralized Data Management: NMB’s integration ensures that all relevant data, including critical shipping events, are centralized within D365. This makes it easier to manage, reference, and track information related to hazardous materials.
How?
Integrating HazMat shipping into NMB Gateway for TMS enhances D365’s ability to communicate seamlessly with e2open’s TMS when processing shipments (including LTL) that contain regulated materials. To reduce the complexity of HazMat shipping, we’ve introduced new parameters, including a TMS HazMat regulations table, which enables users to select and define item-based regulations based on D365’s native hazardous material regulation table.
As items are added to order lines (Sales, Purchase, or Transfer orders), NMB Gateway for TMS automatically checks whether an item’s regulation code matches any codes listed in the new TMS HazMat regulations page. If a match is found, the order is flagged with the necessary regulatory details, ensuring e2open’s TMS is updated with the correct compliance information by sending the required commodity and classification details—streamlining workflows and reducing manual effort.
The Result
This latest integration continues to build upon NMB Gateway for TMS’ robust TMS offerings – creating an efficient and compliant solution for managing HazMat shipping, contributing to a safer and more reliable supply chain. Integrating e2open's HazMat TMS capabilities into Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance and Supply Chain offers significant benefits to our growing customer base – enabling them to navigate shipping compliance with stringent regulations, ensuring safe and legal transportation of hazardous materials.
NMB’s strong partnership with e2open and its resulting integrations improve operational efficiency through automation and streamlined workflows, reducing manual tasks and errors. Centralized data management simplifies access to critical shipping information, supporting better decision-making, thereby enabling our customers to ship smarter faster.
